Costs

Gynaecology Consultations
All patients must be referred by a GP prior to seeing a specialist.
  • The fee for an initial specialist consultation is $200.00 (Medicare will pay a rebate to patients with a Medicare card).
  • The fee for subsequent specialist consultations is $100.00 (Medicare will pay a rebate to patients with a Medicare card).
  • The fee for a colposcopy examination is $100.00 (Medicare may pay a rebate to some patients).

Outpatient Procedures
  • Some procedures can be performed in the specialist's clinic under local anaesthesia.
  • The specialist's fee for outpatient procedures will be bulk billed.

Procedures in Hospital
Some procedures require general anaesthesia and can only be performed in a hospital, either as day surgery or overnight stay.
The costs will vary depending on whether or not you have private health insurance.

Patients with private health insurance:
  • Surgeon's fees: you will have no out-of-pocket charges from the surgeon if your private health policy covers the procedure.
  • Anaesthetist's fees: your anaesthetist may charge a gap.  You will need to discuss this with the anaesthetist prior to surgery.
  • Hospital's fees: most of your hospital charges will be covered by your health insurance policy, but you may be required to pay an excess or co-payment under the terms of your health insurance policy.  You will need to discuss this with the hospital prior to surgery.
Self-funded patients:
  • Surgeon and anaesthetist's fees: if you have a Medicare card, you can take the surgeon's and anaesthetist's invoices to Medicare and receive a rebate.  There will also be some out-of-pocket costs.  You will need to discuss this with the surgeon and anaesthetist prior to surgery.
  • Hospital's fees: you will be required to pay the hospital charges yourself.  Medicare does not pay hospital fees.  You will need to discuss the charges with the hospital prior to surgery.
